conclusion

I found so much information about different rituals around the world of the deceased. Although it was difficult, looking back at it I found it also to be very fun and educational. I learned so many new things about how others celebrate/mourn death and there are so many other ways that I have yet to learn. I began my search process and found that there are different ways that cultures deal with the dead. Some cultures react violently to death, some simply mourn and remember the lives of those gone and some celebrate death. The goal of this research was to answer the main question I had about death, which is “Why are we so fascinated about death?” The answer to the question of why we (human beings) are so fascinated about death is because it is the Other. The Other is something out of your comfort zone, something you have not been exposed to. Death is an excellent example because it is so foreign to us in that we ourselves have not yet experienced it and have no idea what lies ahead. It is not something that we know so much about, it’s different and mysterious and attracts us but scares us at the same time. There are different ways of dealing with death because of different beliefs, because of different encounterings of the other. Finding out to answer to this question I have had all year has made me wonder more about each of these cultures and ask more questions, which is why my new question that I have would require me to dig deeper into each of these cultures and their religion and find out everything they believe and why they believe it.
